Mahogany Boards

The famous English pub game in which players attempt to shove old English ha'penny coins up a board so that they fall between the horizontal lines. At first glance, it appears simple but you can bet your bottom farthing that the pub locals will beat you every time...

The wooden boards are made from solid quarter sawn mahogany in the same traditional way as they were made over 100 years ago. Selected by the majority of pubs and clubs throughout Britain, these boards have a scoring strips down the side, a wooden retaining board at the end and come complete with a set of genuine old English halfpennies. A bar under the front of the board butts up against the table to prevent movement. Both boards are 32mm thick and measure approximately 560mm x 330mm (22 x 13 x 1.25 inches). Our boards have regulation 1.25 inch beds - do not settle for anything less!

Note: The manufacturer supplies unsmoothed ha'pennies with these boards - these work fine on the wooden surface.

The Tournament board incorporates hinged brass lifts which are pulled upwards to determine if a coin is within a bed or not - if the ha'penny moves, it doesn't score...

Availability Update. Jaques have a long-term manufacturing problem with these boards and they have been out of stock for many months. The Jaques family are still working on these issues and assure us that stock will eventually arrive but as at February 2009, new boards are not imminent.
