A slate Shove Ha'penny board from English mined slate complete with smoothed old English ha'penny coins - with the tails side still visible. Many people believe that the best material for a Shove Ha'penny board is Slate. Slate boards are rare these days so we have manufactured our own games using high quality slate from the last working slate mine in England - the same slate used on the roof of Buckingham Palace. You won't find these boards anywhere else.
The board comes with chalk, rules and real old English ha'pennies that have been smoothed on one side to reduce friction.
The smooth, beautifully finished 9mm solid Cumbrian slate is very heavy with a cork backing so it should not move around during play. There are 9 beds - which is the most standard layout - and the usual scoring margins on either side. The board is tournament specification because the lines are channels in the board enabling players to slide a coin or straight edge (e.g. a credit card) down the line to resolve any disputes with certainty.
To make the game work as it should, you will need to sprinkle a little powder onto the slate before play. We recommend French chalk but arrow-root powder or talcum power should work just fine.
