Scrabble Deluxe

Deluxe Scrabble has the following features designed to improve your Scrabble playing experience:

• A large board, 38 cm square
• Rotating turntable base, allowing the board to be quickly turned to face each player
• Playing surface with raised corner nodules to keep the tiles in place - to avoid spoiling the game if the table is knocked.
• A velveteen bag to hold the tiles.

The turntable and pins to locate the pieces are both really useful in play - not just gimmicks. The look of the game is also enhanced with black tiles against a lighter board surrounded by wood-effect frame although the entire product is made of a plastic material. Scrabble Deluxe includes 100 tiles, 4 tile racks and instructions

We have had people who have wanted a comparison of this version of the game with Scrabble Prestige or the previous version of Scrabble Deluxe so a word of explanation may assist. We would not describe this product as 'deluxe' - that is the manufacturer's description. If you want a version of the game with distinctly higher quality components, we suggest you opt for Scrabble Prestige. Having said that, Scrabble Deluxe is bigger and offers several useful functional features over the standard game - for many people these features are just what they want and Scrabble Deluxe meets their requirement perfectly.

Please note that this is a new version of Deluxe Scrabble - the previous version has raised dividers between the squares but was discontinued by Hasbro. The nodules in the corner of each square serve the same purpose.

 

Scrabble - Prestige edition

Scrabble - Prestige edition is the premium luxury version of Scrabble. Much nicer than standard with rotating board, a raised grid to prevent tile movement, quality components and a wooden box.

• Raised Grid to hold tiles in place. So when the board gets nudged, no need to put all the tiles back into place!

• Rotating game board so that each player can see the board from the front when playing

The game board forms the lid of the wooden box that contains the pieces. The game is played with the board on the box which has a quality weighty feel to it and has the rotating turntable mounted on the underside. Thus, the board is effectively mounted on a turning podium which all serves to produce a highly satisfactory experience.

A game like this is so much nicer than the standard game, it is likely to be handed down the generations as an heirloom. Fantastic for a gift or for those who just want a more luxurious Scrabble experience.

Scrabble Prestige Edition is for ages 10 and over, 2-4 players. Not suitable for children younger than 5.

 

Scrabble - Large print

A large print wooden version of the world's favourite word game. Ideal for the short sighted or partially sighted, it is produced in association with the RNIB.

Large Print Scrabble contains tiles that are 25% larger than ordinary Scrabble and the specially designed large print board is ideal for those who find the normal tiles a bit too small and fiddly. With a full colour, A4 rules booklet.

 

Scrabble Junior - Wildlife Edition

A fun, new version of Junior Scrabble with a new colour-coded scoring system. The new double sided board offers two different games, so that younger children can start with the simpler board, and then move on to the more advanced game when they are ready. This version of Junior Scrabble is based on a wildlife theme.

 

Travel Scrabble Deluxe

An excellent compact edition of Scrabble with a robust travel case and a built in playing surface to hold tiles in place.

The Deluxe Travel Scrabble is rather nicer than less expensive versions and includes:

* Integral scoring device on the edge of the board for each player - no need for pencil and paper.
* All the contents can be safely and tidily stored away inside the moulded case.
* Four storage racks which are specially designed to hold tiles in place during the playing of the game and which keep them hidden when they are packed away if play has to be interrupted.

The manufacturers recommend that Scrabble is suitable for 2-4 players age 10 years upwards, although children as young as 8 have been seeing playing quite happily.

 

Scrabble Timer

We all know someone who always seems to take longer than everyone else to make their word in Scrabble. This useful little gadget should level the playing field, prevent any disputes from arising and stop the game from dragging along too slowly.

A nice gift idea for the Scrabble enthusiast, the Scrabble timer uses light and sound to indicate elapsed time and has settings for 1, 2 and 3 minutes. Press the button and the countdown starts with a bleep and a flash. It gives the same warning at 30 secs again and finally when it reaches the last 10 seconds, it gives a countdown of bleeps and flashes until the time is up.

The Scrabble Timer requires 2 AA batteries. Complete with instructions.
