Gye Nyame Table OwareMancala is the classic game of Africa that could well be the oldest board game in the world. There are hundreds of versions of the game throughout Asia and Africa but Oware from West Africa and the Caribbean is the best known. It is also the version of Mancala usually played at competition level; however it is simple to learn and is great for children, enhancing both maths and strategy skills. An Oware table with Ashanti stools could easily be the centrepiece for a games room or entrance hall. Always a talking point for visitors, an Oware table becomes an eye-catching spectacle when positioned between two Ashanti stools and for game enthusiasts what better way to play one of the greatest games ever invented? The game is hand-made by a Ghanaian craftsman. It is not intricate, high quality carving work in Western terms but it has a beauty of its own that is typical of the region. As with all hand-made products, there are minor imperfections, patterns vary and surfaces may not be perfectly flat. Of course, the uniqueness of each board is part of its character but this may not be to everyone's taste. NOTE: The seeds included with these boards represent a choking hazard for small children. Not recommended for children under 5 years old.
