Round Oware GameA round Oware Mancala game from Ghana with the usual two rows of six hollows and also an extra bowl to hold captured seeds in front of each player. The board folds in half and the exterior features a carved Gye Nyame symbol that represents the omnipotence and immortality of God for the Ashanti tribe. Click on the picture for a larger version
The game is hand-made by a Ghanaian craftsman. It is not intricate, high quality carving work in Western terms but it has a beauty of its own that is typical of the region. As with all hand-made products, there are minor imperfections, patterns vary and surfaces may not be perfectly flat. Of course, the uniqueness of each board is part of its character but this may not be to everyone's taste. NOTE: The seeds included with these boards represent a choking hazard for small children. Not recommended for children under 5 years old.
