Oware
Masters Traditional Games has gone to extreme lengths to obtain genuine Oware boards from West Africa. It is easy to buy Chinese-manufactured boards but why do that when you can have the real thing?
If you want to play Mancala the proper way, then this is your chance! NOTE: The seeds included with these boards represent a choking hazard for small children. Not recommended for children under 5 years old. Nov 2007: We regret that our source for these boards has become unavailable. We will be attempting to get hold of more boards next year but will probably not be able to supply any for some time. We do apologise for the inconvenience.
Oware Table Board
We can also obtain large Oware Table Boards from Ghana. Mancala boards don't come any bigger than these. Made from stained Osese hardwood, this table is sure to be a talking point in your house for years to come. The board stands tall on its own frame in the middle of which the craftsman has cleverly carved out a traditional Adinkra symbol. This symbol is the "Gye Nyame" symbol which represents the Omnipotence and immortality of God for the Ashanti tribe. Includes real Bonduc seeds and a rules sheet. Dimensions: 60 x 20 x 40cm. This product contains small parts that represent a choking hazard for small children. Not suitable for children under 5 years old. As with the little boards, the game is hand-made by a Ghanaian craftsman. It is not intricate, high quality carving work in Western terms but it has a beauty of its own, that is typical of the region. We only have one of these boards in stock and each one is unique so the one shown is the one you will get, should you choose to order. Before you order, please be aware that this board has some discolouring on the stand (visible in the left hand picture) and is also slightly bent upwards on one side (this is less obvious but can be seen in the right hand picture). This is fairly typical as most boards are not entirely square; for some people this just enhances its character but we mention it because for others, it is offputting. Nov 2007: We regret that our source for these boards has become unavailable. We will be attempting to get hold of more boards next year but we will not be able to supply any for some time. We are aware that many people will be disappointed at this time of year and we can only apologise.
