The origins of Dal Negro go back as far as 1756, when a small factory for playing cards started business in Treviso, Italy. The Dal Negro family took over the factory in 1928 and they have improved and extended their manufacturing methods and range ever since. Dal Negro's Playing cards portfolio includes triplex, cardboard and 100% PVC home, clubs and casinos. Their games revolve around their beautiful wooden box making resulting in elegant, high-quality production Backgammon sets, Chess pieces and boards, roulette wheels and children's games.

In 2002, Dal Negro moved to a larger factory and headquarters and today Dal Negro operate with over 60 employees in premises that cover 15,000 square metres with ten external workshops. Playing cards are still the main business of the Dal Negro but they are also world leaders in Backgammons sets, Backgammon cases, Chess, roulette equipment and other table games.

Over the years Dal Negro have come to specialise in beautiful looking game boxes, humidors, Backgammon sets and the like. Their basic form is to make the Backgammon set frame from a good solid but nice-looking hardwood such as Walnut or Cherrywood and then to make a lid from a particularly special timber such as briarwood or ebony or some Burr Walnut with a spectacular grain. This forms the eye-catching exterior.

The Backgammon interior is often a matching wooden playing surface with inlaid points from a carefully selected contrasting wood of equal beauty such as Maple, Cherrywood or Toulipier.

For those who prefer a quieter Backgammon surface, Dal Negro have two options. Firstly, they have developed Similpelle, a modern substitute for leather designed to have a similar feel and look but to perform better and last longer. Dal Negro's classic smart Backgammon cases were originally made entirely of Similpelle.

A more modern development from the Dal Negro development workshop is a new material for Backgammon play - a modern composite fibre surface which is extremely long-lasting and provides a supreme surface for the play of Backgammon - the counters glide across the surface as smoothly a silk over marble.
