Asalto is a member of a family of games of unequal sides, the most famous example of which is the medieval game of Fox and Geese.
Asalto translates from Spanish into "Assault" and a military theme is typical of games of this ilk in general. Other similar games that appeared over the decades include 'German Tactics', 'Officers & Sepoys' and 'Seige'.
The board consists of a standard cross-shaped board but with 9 squares designated as 'the fort' with 2 defenders inside. The objective of the multitude of attackers outside is to occupy the fort. The defenders cannot be taken and they aim to capture the attackers before the fort is stormed.
Asalto is an entertaining pastime with a bit more interest than the standard Fox and Geese game. The board is made from beautiful hardwood in a stylish design with quality brass pieces.
